For those who don’t know, Jeep was the company which invented the concept of 4×4 or the low range movement and pioneered off roading as we know it today. Last year the company made a comeback in our country with two of its most popular offerings, the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. Now the Grand Cherokee comes in three trims which are Summit, Limited and SRT variants. What you here see is the most outrageous and performance bred version of the Grand Cherokee i.e. SRT which stands for Street and Racing Technology.

To start from, this car is huge at around 4.85 meters long, nearly 2 meters wide and 1.8 meters in height. You just can’t not see it on road. This is a mammoth of a vehicle and it is evident as the road presence is just unshakeable. The front of the car houses the typical Jeep designing elements like the seven slatted front grill and then there are such massive air dams in the front bumper. Then there are these bi-xenon headlamps which also houses the LED daytime running lights. All the chrome work has been blacked out to give it  a more sporty appeal. Now what truly attracts you towards it are these massive 20 inch polished alloy rims inside which are these hot red Brembo brake callipers to stop this 2.5 tonne beast. The side is dominated by flared wheel arches and strong shoulder line for that tough jeep look. The tail lights are also smoked and the rear bumper houses twin tail pipes which roars when you push the pedal.

Hold the door handle and the weight of the doors itself will remind you that it really is one of the toughest car you might find in the country. You have to climb yourself inside the cabin and though it might be a bit of an exercise but when you settle inside the cabin it is ultra luxurious. The interior upholstery is done in lovely red and black contrast leather and with some carbon fiber inserts on the dash and the doors which makes it feel and lot sportier. The steering is also chunky and big and feels very nice to hold. The dash quality is also top notch with leather all around and you seriously can’t find a single piece of hard plastic anywhere as the quality of material used is just impeccable. The centre console consists of tastefully looking brushed aluminium inserts and houses a massive 8.4 inch touchscreen display from where you can nearly control everything and this also is compatible with Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Mirrorlink and also is voice command operated. The seats are well bolstered and huge as they were made to accomodate big American bodies. The cushioning is also quite good and it supports you in every possible way. Now what we Indians really will appreciate is the ventilated function for the front seats. Also all the front row and rear row seats are heated too. Though everything here is black but what really lightens up the interior is a massive dual pane panoramic sunroof.

For the rear seats passengers they also have there personal displays for entertainment behind the two front seats. Also the rear bench seat is quite wide and accomodate three easily without any hussle. The boot is of massive 1025 litres with all the seats up and can gobble up a lot of stuff.

Powering this vehicle is a SRT tuned 6.4 litre HEMI V8 engine which churns out 468 Bhp @ 6250 rpm and 624 Nm of peak torque @ 4100 rpm. Here HEMI means Chrysler’s Hemispherical cylinder head which gives an efficient combustion chamber with an excellent surface to volume ratio with minimal heat loss to the head and has two large valves. This engine is mated to a 8 speed automatic transmission which also comes with paddle shifters. The car comes with five driving modes which are Track, Sport, Auto, Snow and Tow. For most of the times it is best to drive the car in Auto for our road conditions. It also has launch control for if you want to take it to a drag strip. Now this engine can propel this car from 0-100 kmph in 5 seconds flat while hunting for its top speed which is 257 kmph. The Grand Cherokee SRT also comes with on demand 4×4 for when things get tough. Now when you have this big engine and a heavy car, you also need big brakes to stop all that momentum. For this the car has 6 piston callipers Brembo brakes in the front and 4 piston callipers at the back. For safety the car comes equipped with 7 airbags, all speed traction control, electronic roll mitigation, brake assist, ABS with EBD and ESP, Hill Hold control, Isofix mounts for child seats are the reasons why this vehicle scored 5 stars in crash test.

Now being a Jeep means this car must have some extraordinary off road capabilities and that is where it really shines. The car is 210mm off the ground and water wading capacity of 508mm. This car is a serious off roader and also comes with a limited slip differential for when you want to get some dirt on your sleeves.

Now Grand Cherokee SRT is the most expensive offering by jeep in our country with and Ex-showroom price tag of 1.14 Crore in Delhi. Now this is a lot of amount but if you ask us, what you get is a lot more car than what you pay.
